Who We Are
Your Compounding Specialists
COMPOUNDING - To combine or cause the union of
separate elements, ingredients, or parts, to form a distinct substance.
It appears that the ancient Greeks were among the first to think
scientifically and begin the process of an organized dispensing of medical
compounds - hence the basis for the name Pharmacy, taken from the Greek
pharmakeia, the art, practice, or profession of preparing, preserving,
compounding, and dispensing medical drugs.
The Pharmacy began to develop into
a separate profession in the early 18th century and the first school of
pharmacy was established in Philadelphia in 1821. Since its early beginning to
today the pharmacist has learned to deal with more and more complex remedies.
It was only in the 20th century that the commercial drug companies began
manufacturing complete self-contained prescriptions for distribution, Until
that time the pharmacist was relied on to formulate the prescription as
specified by the medical doctor through compounding the necessary ingredients
to form the desired medication.
Now it appears that the science of pharmacology has come full
circle - with the pharmacist once again being relied upon to compound
medications to dispense medications the drug companies no long choose to make
or in dosages of strengths that vary from the manufacture's. And, with the
recent emphasis on natural substances in medical treatment, the compounding
pharmacist is being called upon to fill needs not being met by pharmaceutical
manufacturers.
This is where Moore's Pharmacy is unique - we have a
tradition of meeting the medical needs of our clients by filling their
prescriptions with compounds to meet the specifications of their medical
practitioner when there is no other source available.
We are
COMPOUNDING PHARAMCISTS in the original sense of the description.
